In an increasingly digital world, the practice of traditional Witchcraft is finding new ways to evolve while staying true to its ancient roots. DragonOak Coven, known for its deep commitment to Witchcraft and to Hekate and Hermes, has embraced this evolution by offering a fully online course in traditional Witchcraft. This initiative is designed to make craft training accessible to everyone, regardless of their location, physical abilities, or personal circumstances. Here’s how we’re making it happen.
1. Crafting an Inclusive Curriculum
At DragonOak Coven, we believe that the practice of Witchcraft should be available to all who seek it, regardless of their background or where they live. Our curriculum is designed to be comprehensive, covering foundational topics like the history of Witchcraft, spellcraft, herbology, divination, and more advanced practices. We offer a range of materials, from written content and video lectures to interactive exercises, ensuring that every type of learner can engage with the material in a way that suits them best.
2. Live Zoom Meetings: Bringing the Coven Experience Home
One of the most significant challenges in moving traditional Witchcraft training online is maintaining the sense of community and connection that is so vital to the craft. To address this, we incorporate regular Zoom meetings into our course. These sessions are more than just lectures—they are interactive gatherings where students can ask questions, share experiences, and participate in rituals and ceremonies.
Each Zoom meeting is designed to replicate the experience of being in a physical coven. Whether it's a discussion about the phases of the moon, a guided meditation, or a shared ritual, these meetings help foster a sense of belonging and community among our students. By using Zoom, we ensure that even those who cannot attend in person due to distance or mobility issues can still participate fully.
3. Mentorship: Personalised Guidance on Your Path
Mentorship has always been a crucial element of traditional Witchcraft training, and at DragonOak Coven, we are committed to maintaining this practice.
I will meet with students one-on-one via Zoom or other digital platforms to discuss their progress, answer questions, and offer advice tailored to the student's individual path. This mentorship ensures that each student receives the attention and guidance they need to develop their skills and knowledge effectively. It also helps to create a more personalized experience, as students can explore areas of the craft that particularly resonate with them.
4. Building a Global Community
One of the most beautiful outcomes of offering an online course is the creation of a global community of practitioners. Students from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds come together to share their perspectives and learn from one another. This diversity enriches the learning experience and reflects the universal nature of Witchcraft as a spiritual practice.
DragonOak Coven encourages students to connect with one another outside of scheduled classes through forums, social media groups, and other online platforms. These connections often lead to lifelong friendships and collaborations, extending the coven experience far beyond the digital classroom.
5. Ensuring Accessibility for All
Accessibility is a key concern for us at DragonOak Coven. We recognize that students may have varying levels of physical ability, access to technology, and learning preferences. To address this, we have taken several steps:
Closed Captions and Transcripts: All video content is accompanied by closed captions and transcripts to ensure that students with hearing impairments can fully participate.
Flexible Schedules: Recognizing that many students have jobs, families, or other commitments, our course is designed to be flexible. Recordings of Zoom meetings are available for those who cannot attend live, and students can complete coursework at their own pace.
Diverse Learning Materials: Our course materials are offered in various formats—text, audio, and video—so that students can choose the medium that works best for them.
6. Sacred Rituals and Digital Altars
One of the most sacred aspects of Witchcraft is the performance of rituals. While it may seem challenging to conduct rituals online, we have found ways to bring the magic into the digital space. During our Zoom meetings, we guide students through group rituals, and we teach them how to create their own digital altars at home.
These rituals are designed to be just as powerful and meaningful as those performed in person. Whether it's casting a circle, invoking deities, or working with the elements, our students learn how to channel their energy and intentions through the virtual space, connecting with the divine in a profound way.
Training is not compulsory and there is no right way of practising witchcraft. It does however give you a community to share with and discuss commonalities and differences and to discuss and debate. It gives you a structured format, to learn with like minded others.
Finding a coven is an important step and I will say that nothing beats a physical coven family, however many people are unable to access such covens and this offering is meant to help those who are either too far away, unable to commit to regular physical meetings or have a disability that prevents them from accessing physical training.
